The
band formed under the working title of ‘UNREAL’ in November 2001
with Scott, Darren and Conrad from BINARY, Paul from SPIT and Faz
from GODKILLSAMERICA.
In the
first 12 months of existence the band spent their time developing
material which would see it’s way to becoming their first
independent release in the form of ‘FEAR OF PLASTIC GODS’. They also
required a more dominant name which would give them more of an
identity within the growing metal scene of their home town of
Preston. After several weeks of discussion it was decided that FREAKJESUS was to be used as it fitted neatly into their own
personal beliefs and gave them a sense of stability with their new
founded permanence.
Shortly
after the release of their debut ,Conrad left the band for personal
reasons and it was now time to find a replacement for bass duties.
Tony filled the space with relative ease in the Summer of 2003 after
several rehearsals and constant development of material the band
were back to playing live shows again with a mini tour at the end of
the year in and around their native North West.
2004
saw the band writing again and reworking material for their second
release entitled ‘CHOKE’. More of a concept album this time around
,dealing with ideas of abuse in all forms. Drawing inspiration and
ideas from personal experiences and lifestyles ,both musically and
lyrically this has seen some of their strongest and best work to
date with acclaim coming from new fans around the UK at every show. The album was recorded at the start of 2005.At the beginning of the Summer the band was hit with another blow .Paul was to leave the band to concentrate on his career and so it was the unenviable task to find a replacement this time on guitar.
Boots
were filled once again by Rik Knight from Manchester and again after
only a short period of time it was obvious that Rik was to be a more
than capable addition to the Freak family taking over duties on lead
guitar whilst leaving the rhythm work to Scott.
The
release night for the album was met with excellent reviews and
encouraging comments from their Preston fan base which then prompted
the band to start plans for another mini-tour in the Summer
.Initially this began as a 7 date run of shows over a 5 week period
.By the end of the Summer of 2005 ,FREAKJESUS had played a total of
17 shows with an endless list of bands all on the back of their
growing popularity. With the band now in the strongest position they feel they have ever been in and the scene thriving in one of the best unsigned era’s ever ,the FREAK’s are determined to keep the metal flag flying in the name of good rock !
